2019
100% Grenache. The MAHA Estate and James Berry Vineyard join forces to create one of the most provocative Grenaches to date! An exciting deep magenta with aromatics of boysenberry, cinnamon, camphor, and wet stones transition to a juicy and energetic palate. Silky tannins support layers of expressive strawberries, rhubarb, anise, middle eastern spices, and limestone in this strikingly beautiful, resonant wine. All the elements are in the right place. Well deserving of a few years in the cellar, this will be a tough one to leave alone. If you can’t leave your hands off it, a brisk decanting is advised. Drink 2021-2035.

2020
97% Grenache, 3% Syrah

“Grenache delivers everything that Pinot Noir promises…” -Unknown

The MAHA Estate and James Berry Vineyard join forces again to create one badass Grenache. A deep magenta color pulls you into the glass. Notes of cranberry, muddled spring flowers, musk and Absinthe conjure a scene from Moulin Rouge. Steeped cherries, candied orange peel, anise, white pepper and modest tannins transition to a generous palate with great purity and precision. Several years of cellaring will reward those who have restraint and patience. For those of you who want a YUMMY Grenache NOW (think Veruca Salt), splash decant it and watch the Moulin Rouge emerge. Drink 2023-2035.

2021
100% Grenache. Grenache comprises 40% of the plantings here at the MAHA. We are always amazed at how and when the blocks ripen. They are at most a quarter mile from each other and they are usually picked 3 weeks apart. They all have unique profiles and it’s exciting to blend and create a singular wine. The vibrancy of color conveys a sense of energy and verve. Aromatics of pomegranate, anise, sweet tobacco and orange peel transition to a precise and concentrated palate conjuring flavors of tart cherry, raspberry, limestone, and cardamom. It is reminiscent of Volnay on steroids with a brighter personality. As we like to say. Grenache delivers everything that Pinot Noir promises. A bit of short term cellaring will pay off in spades. Drink 2024-2040

2022
100% Grenache. A blend of MAHA and Kirk-Landry Grenache creates a complex wine from two very different sites. The MAHA’s south facing slopes and limestone soils provide bright red fruits filled with tension and energy, where the north facing clay soils of Kirk-Landry provide a darker fruit profile packed with spice and texture. Together, they create a deliciously complex wine. A vibrant ruby red color lead to aromas of orange peel, strawberries, toasted levain, camphor, and white pepper. The palate is focused and expansive, full of fruit and umami that conjure thoughts of Bing cherry, hibiscus tea, wet stones and West Paso botanicals. Finishing with good length and structure, it will pair well with grilled veggies, lamb chops with salsa verde, or whole grilled fish. Drink 2024-2034

2023
100% Grenache. Fresh red fruits, orange peel, camphor, and coriander are rolled into a medium-bodied palate full of glycerin and intrigue. The tannin structure is enthusiastic and lively, accompanied by a plethora of red and blue fruits, chalky limestone, and wild West Paso flora. It begs for a decant in the near term to give it the opportunity to really spread its wings and soar. Drink 2025–2040

2024
100% Grenache. We love every varietal that we get to work with, but there really is something special about Westside Grenache. Like a Fender Stratocaster, it has no problem giving you everything you ask of it, from clean and subtle to driven and crunchy. It truly does it all. The 2024 Garnacha shook out to contain 100% Maha fruit this year, balancing fruit and minerality with energy and poise. The resulting wine is a textural, medium-bodied blend of candied red fruits, dried orange peel, and wet stone on the nose. The palate boasts crushed oyster shell, ripe juicy raspberry, Mediterranean spices, and limestone. A workhorse bottle of wine for summer BBQs, Thanksgiving, it shines even with a little chill on it.
